One of the pioneers of installation art in the 1960s, Brazilian Cildo Meireles has influenced generations of international artists working in this medium. Bestknown for his often dramatic and politically-charged walk-in environments which incorporate sound, smell and touch, Meireles requires the viewer´s full-body involvement in his work. His three-dimensional art envelops the viewer and offers an alternative visual, political and sensual to the less-than-perfectworld around us. This is the most important monograph available on this innovative figure and served as the catalogue for a retrospective exhibition at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, in 1999, which toured North and South America throughout 2000.
