The ALTE Conference, European Language Testing in a Global Context, was held in Barcelona in 2001 in support of the European Year of Languages. The conference papers presented in this volume represent a small subset of the many excellent presentations made at that event. They have been selected to provide a flavour of the issues that the conference addressed.
