It happened so quickly that there was no time to think. A man walked into him and them his eyes widened in disbelief. ´No! My God! It cannot... You?re dead!´ The Patient?s hand seized his shoulder. ´I lived. What do you know?. When Dr. Washburn?s patient is pulled from the waters of the Mediterranean, he has been shot many times and is close to death. The doctor discovers that the man?s face has been changed and that he has lost his memory - maybe forever. Who is the patient? What is he? And what was he before the attack in which he almost lost his life? The patient himself has no idea who he is. He has knowledge and skills, but they are not the knowledge and skills of an ordinary man. Why is he so comfortable with guns? Why is the number of a bank account recorded on a small piece of film which was hidden under his skin? Why does he know so much about important world events but not his own name?
