Dr. Henry Jekyll is a well-respected and wealthy doctor in London. He has no family and is looked after by his butler Poole and an army of servants. He does a great deal of good medical work to help patients who are suffering. Dr. Jekyll?s two oldest friends are his lawyer, Mr. Utterson, and Dr. Lanyon. Dr. Lanyon, however, has been concerned about the type of scientific work that Dr. Jekyll has been doing in the last ten years, which he describes as ?unscientific nonsense?.
